In my life I have come to understand that change is easy when you are going the wrong way. But when a desire to do good and to make it happen comes about it is difficult. I liken it unto fighting against gravity. It takes an airliner jet much force to get into the air, and once there in order to remain it still takes much energy and maneuvering. If an engine blows it would be disastrous and it does not take much for the fall, in fact doing nothing will bring you down.
So it is in our lives. If we are doing nothing for change we will inevitably fall. We are taught though that change can be had and that if we work with our Father He will help us. In fact He is anxiously waiting for the moment we ask. The book of Alma says, And now, as the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead
the people to do that which was just—yea, it had had more powerful
effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else,
which had happened unto them—therefore Alma thought it was expedient
that they should try the virtue of the word of God. Alma 31:5
If we would truly be better we must start with the word. Daily feasting upon the teachings of the Savior. He has given us more than one witness. We have the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, The Pearl of Great Price (and it is indeed a Pearl), we are also counseled to seek out many other good books in which the Lord has stated contains knowledge and wisdom, yes we are free to seek truth and light where ever it is found. We as Christians do not hold a monopoly on morality and truth. We are however truly blessed to have so much. We are told to feast upon the words of Christ, and with the many entrees he has provided we should never become tired of the same meal for it is a buffet in which we may choose a course.
